Auxiliarists, while under orders, are uniformed members of the Coast Guard.  They perform a real, tangible service to their community and the nation as a whole.  Flotilla 11-03 is an all-aviation flotilla, and its members have the additional satisfaction of knowing that their contributions primarily aid Coast Guard operational missions such as search and rescue, marine environmental protection, and port security.  If you are interested in participating in an organization that makes a real difference to our community and country, then consider joining The Flying Flotilla.

Being an aviation flotilla, members tend to hold aviation qualifications.  If you are a pilot, with or without your own aircraft, the Flotilla can make use of your skills.  If you do own your own aircraft, the Auxiliary may compensate you for time you spend flying it on official missions under orders.  If you are a pilot and don't own an aircraft, you can still fly as co-pilot, aircrew or observer.

You are needed whether you're a pilot or not.  With training you can fly as observer or aircrew, or fill any of several different non-flying roles.  Also, there are elected and appointed officer's positions you may qualify for.  A flotilla elects a Flotilla Commander and Vice Flotilla Commander every year, and the Flotilla Commander appoints staff officers.  Elected officers must have an operational qualification, and in Flotilla 11-03 they are usually pilots.  Appointed officers fill a variety of roles, and most are not pilots.
